How to Remove Items From Your Safari Reading List

Your Safari Reading List is a great spot to save articles you don’t have time to read now. You can check them out later with just a couple of clicks or taps. The problem is that the more items you save, the harder it can be to find what you want.

We’ll show you how to remove items from your Safari Reading List on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Remove Safari Reading List Items on iPhone and iPad

You can delete individual items on iPhone and iPad or clear your entire Reading List easily.

  1. Open Safari and access the Reading List
Bookmarks icon and Reading List tab in Safari on iPhone
  • On iPhone, tap the Bookmark icon in the toolbar and select the Reading List (center) tab.
  • On iPad, open the sidebar and select Reading List. If you see your Bookmarks or History, tap the back arrow on the top left of the sidebar to see the main menu.
  1. Do one of the following to remove items:
  • To delete one item, slide it from right to left and tap Delete.

  • To delete multiple items, tap Edit at the bottom and mark the items. To easily select all items, simply slide your finger down the left side of the list. Then, choose Delete on the bottom left.

  1. Tap Done on the bottom right when you finish.

You then have a clean slate to begin saving more items to your Reading List.

Remove Safari Reading List Items on Mac

If you use Safari on Mac, you can delete one or more Reading List items in Safari in just a few steps.

  1. Open Safari and click the sidebar icon on the top left.
  1. Select Reading List. Like on iPad, if you see your Bookmarks or History, use the back arrow on the top left to see the main menu.

And again, you now have an empty Safari Reading List just waiting for more articles.

Those items in your Safari Reading List are saved for later when you have time to read them but should be deleted when you finish. If you want to hold onto a webpage to revisit again and again, it’s best to bookmark it instead.
