How to Delete and Recover a Playlist on Spotify

Share this post:

If you created a playlist that you no longer listen to, you can delete it on Spotify. This is useful if you add songs for a holiday, event, or special occasion that’s now in the past.

Plus, if you delete a playlist within 90 days, Spotify allows you to recover it. So, if you accidentally remove a playlist or decide later you want one back in your library, it takes only a few steps.

Delete a Spotify Playlist on the Web or Desktop

You can delete a playlist on the Spotify Web Player or in the desktop application the same way.

  1. Sign into the Spotify Web Player or open the app on your computer.
  2. Do one of the following:
  • Open the playlist, select the More options icon (three dots), and pick Delete.
Delete in the More Options menu for a playlist
  • Right-click the playlist in Your Library on the left and pick Delete.

The playlist will vanish from your Spotify library.

Delete a Spotify Playlist on Mobile

Deleting a playlist in the Spotify mobile app is just as easy as the web and desktop application.

  1. Open the Spotify app, go to the Your Library tab, and select the playlist.
  2. Choose the More options icon (three dots), and pick Delete playlist.
  3. Tap Delete in the confirmation window.

And just like that, your playlist is gone!

Recover a Spotify Playlist

Unlike deleting a Spotify playlist, you can’t recover one using the desktop or mobile app. Instead, you’ll head to your Spotify account page on the web.

Note: You can only recover playlists you’ve deleted in the last 90 days.

  1. Do one of the following to access your Spotify account:
    • In the Web Player or the desktop application, select your profile icon on the top right and pick Account.
    • On your mobile device, open your preferred web browser, and head to the Spotify account page.
  2. If prompted, sign into your Spotify account.
  3. In the Account section, pick Recover playlists.

You’ll then see the playlist highlighted and marked as Restored.

Spotify playlist Recovered

If you exit and return to Account > Recover playlists, the one you recovered is no longer listed. And, when you open Your Library on Spotify, you should see the playlist you recovered.

Setting up various playlists on Spotify can be a great way to have music at your fingertips for weekend parties or quiet nights at home. And knowing that you can recover a Spotify playlist if necessary, gives you a bit of security if you delete a playlist by mistake.
